In the same vain, and relative liability, there are police departments that we won't use their dogs either. It's all in the reputation when it comes to police working dogs. Remember though, there are civilians that do contract work in both drugs and bombs. It can be done.

I agree. I know a couple of civilians that contract out explosive work. A couple of them belong to IPWDA where they are allowed to certify in Phase I of the testing process.
It can be done, it takes hard work, dedication and quite a few doors shutting in your face, but it definitely can be done.

Jessica, that was a great post! I guess I didn't really think of a lot of the things in the way that you put them out there. I was like Rob, looking at other people(my wife), after getting let down, thinking who the hell is this guy. I may very well know as much if not more than this guy.... I will have to take the information that Carol has PM'd me and run with it... train my ass off and prove myself.
By the way, you guys mention keeping lots of logs and such, is there a "default" or standard that a lot of people may go by. I guess I don't know exactly what I should be keeping track of. If someone were to ask to look at logs I would be lost as to what to show................

Brandon,
I will send you some examples of the logs I use when I PM you the info I have for you, along with an explanation of what I include in them. The logs I am going to send can be saved and used as well.

Good luck guys, I know that there is so much stacked against you, but just the fact that you are still wanting this after so many doors slam into your face shows how much heart you have. Prove them all wrong!
Carol, how many boxes would you like?

That was my question too Brandon, what do these training logs consist of?
Carol,
Would you mind sharing an example of those logs with me as well. If you would, there is no hurry. I know everyone is busy, so whenever you have the time to email.

Yeah Carol, share! A training log would be useful for more than just certifying dogs. It could likely be adapted for any training goal, like competition/titles. Right?

A good training record is important in so many ways. Basically, it documents what you've done. They provide a record of overall performance, not just a one day snap shot. They should be looked at as a road map. Good training records tell you where you are are, you compare your position with your objectives and the training records will tell you how to get there. The single most important document a detector dog team can have; training records.
