I say this about all small animals except ferrets and male mice: if they smell, you are doing something wrong!
And muskrats .....
But I know what you mean. It's like folks who think that dogs just smell.
They don't. They smell if they are on poor diets, or have an infection, or have a yeast overgrowth ... they don't smell "doggy" if they are healthy and properly fed and didn't just finish rolling happily in roadkill (especially rotted skunk! YUM!).
oh, i know, i don't disagree with that at all. especially since everything i've read indicates that they aren't suppose to stink.
apparently the friend who actually owned him had had him checked out, but i wasn't really clear on that. i did a lot of hedgehog research, and my roommate took 'textbook' care of him, imo, far better than what the actual owner had. my personal theory was his food just didn't agree with him for whatever reason, even though it was the recommended whatever (some form of cat or kitten food for the bulk of his diet i think. i honestly don't remember. but that makes sense to me, since he was a hedgehog, not a cat.).
i just remember he was SO grumpy, and he stunk. but it was one of those situations where i had limited control, unfortunately. believe me, i bugged my roommate about checking it out and trying everything possible.
Dwarf hamster=reptile food IMO Those things are nasty little critters that are only good pets if kept in a family group and not interacted with. They are pretty entertaining if kept that way. The larger hamsters, rats, or a guinea pig are better. I always wanted to smack the idiots who wanted one for their 4 year old when I worked at PetSmart. Robo dwarf are much nicer and cuter too.
