I like miniature pinscher, italian greyhound, and patterdale/JRT. Min pin and Italian greyhound like to snuggle under the cover so always expect to find them under blankets or towels.

Hi Wendy,
Oh my gosh, your sister's youtube video's were a treat! Thank you for sharing, they are soohhh cute together. I definitely have a lot to think about and consider when there's so many to choose from. Marisa
Here's a more unusual breed: the Cirneco dell' etna . It's used as a rabbit hunter in Italy, so it's still very athletic and durable compared to many of your lighter breeds but it has a lot of training potential. My neighbor has one and my APBT bodyslams plays w/him daily. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkuYIGUcoNQ
I also like Patterdales, as mentioned earlier in the thread. They're tough hunting dogs and very trainable (for a terrier) and go well with the large guard breeds or the APBT.
Hello All,
Thank you so much for all your thoughtful comments and warm welcome to the forum. The research is ongoing and it's fun to look into all the wonderful breeds out there. I found a couple of local Corgi breeders as well. So hopefully after establishing contact with them I'll find out more about Corgi ownership. In the mean time, please keep the comments coming and Happy Holidays!!! Marisa
Do you want a more aloof or attached dog? If you want aloof, somewhat weird (for a dog) I would second the Shiba Inu! For something more attentive, perhaps a mini poodle (not a toy).

I see everyone recommending Corgi's, which i agree are a great little dog.
but the OP said in her first post that she would be running with the dog (possibly)
so would a Corgi still be the best way to go?
I know they are athletic little dogs (i love them) but could their little legs and joints take the running?
Although JRT's are a high energy dog, as long as they are exercised regulary i think they are a great dog too.
I can highly reccommend a hand bag size dog packed with power the German min-pin, they are feisty and very clean, not to lovey-dovey and woosie like the chi and toy poodle, they get on very well with big dogs, really economical to feed and clean up after, very responsive to basic training- I have two who live in and get on very well with four boisterous Sheps.I assume you will be keeping the two seperate when unsupervised. You can google the breed, if you
want details, you won't be dissapointed, They have just as
much prey drive as any working sheps great with kids and most of all not to yappy!! Well if this has not got you buying then I give up LOL
