I have used E-Collars for the last 13 years or so with my Police Service Dogs. Started out with Tri Tronics Lite series. This was a collar that you had to change the stim levels by changing plugs on the collar. I used this collar, I then went to a Pro 500 and then a dogtra 1100. These were with my previous dog.
After my previous dog had to be put down I began working with a new dog and started out with the Dogtra 1100. I had problems with this collar as I was getting inconsistent stimulation. I spoke with company and they replaced the collar and sent me the longer prongs. This worked immediately and I was impressed with the response I got from Dogtra when I contacted them.
Since that time I have purchased a 1900 (Digital read out) and I work the street daily with a NCP Gold 200. I use the 1900 for any training and new exercises I am going to work and the 200 on the street. The reason is the 200 is a smaller collar as is the transmitter. Both collars have the longer contact points on them as my dog has a thick neck.
I like the Dogtra as the transmitters are smaller and the collars tend to be smaller. They also seem to be cheaper in price. I further like the idea of the rheostat where you can increase the stimulation on continuous . I don't use continuos a lot other than in certain multi decoy call off situations, but that feature is very nice when needed.
I still have the Pro 500 tri tronic collar, but for the most part I use Dogtra.
The smaller transmitter is the main reason I am wanting to get a Dogtra. The Tri-Tronics Pro series transmitters are HUGE! I find that I don't use the collar much for that reason. Right now, I don't really need it much either ... but I have a feeling that may change with my two up and coming dogs. Time will tell.
I also really like the idea of the digital level display.
