Continuing OT...I take fish oil every day myself, but STOPPED taking vit E a couple of years back when the new research came out that vit E supplementation increased the risk of coronary disease in humans.
Let me make very clear that the research I do on dog health and diet, while it often overlaps human health concerns, does not translate from one to the other.
I take E with fish oil, but that was my choice, knowing all about the research (and there are some cons to supplemental E for humans, as Tracy says). There is conflicting research and opinion about the effects of E on human coronary artery disease.
That particular factor does not apply to dogs, who don't have the coronary artery heart disease that humans have. Dogs do get CHF, but not (or almost never) heart attacks (MI) in the human sense. If a dog has what the vet terms a heart attack to the owner, s/he is probably referring to a collapsing episode. Dogs are very resistant to coronary artery disease because of the way dogs handle fats.
Anyway, when I said yes, fish oil is protected by antioxidants in humans, too, as in dogs, I should have said "Ask your health professional." What I said is true, but it's one part of a far more complicated Vitamin E picture in humans.
I'm not a health professional of any kind, including animal, and everything I post is my opinion only.
