$7,500 is a lot to pay for a pet three year old GSD with just basic obedience and a very basic temperament evaluation. I find it strange that they can put such a price on a dog BEFORE the results of the OFA x-ray becomes available and that they have not x-rayed the dog before this as he is three years old. IMO a pet GSD with a lot of pack drive should be valued as such and not like one that has real schutzhund titles or at least schutzhund titles in his background. Go to any working GSD kennel as they probably have on hand many of the type you are looking for, but won't help their working breeding program but will make great pets and you can buy them for half that price and because of their pedigree will make a better pet for you. FYI if you want a stable pet then buy one from parents with schutzhund titles your odds of being satisfied will be much greater JMO.

That dog is a pet, worth about $300.
Add to that the value of OB training, maybe at the most an additional $300.
So there you go, he might be a nice pet worth $600...... and Holistica German Shepherds is asking $7500?
Wow.....would *anybody* be stupid enough to pay that much for so little dog?

This is what he wrote to me..........
"Hugo"
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Sex: Male
Age: 3 Years
Price: $7500 USD
"This is all the dog you will find for this price. He is Micro chiped, AKC registered, Highly obedience Trained, He holds an AKC CGC award, he has completed agility training, and he is a drop dead Gorgeous stud dog waiting for his OFA H/E certification X-rays. We have spent a lot of time with this boy, he is good with people and loves to please. He is not agressive, nor does he have any other bad habits. He is just a great dog that needs a loving home with a master that has 24 hour days to spend with a loving companion. This dog will bond to a good person like super glue! You want a constant companion and a dog that will stand either in front of you or behind you, at your command, this is the one. You need a dog to be alert while you sleep without worry or fear, this is the dog to have at your bed side. He is house broken, in and outdoor kennel and run broken, and he loves to ride in cars and trucks, back or front. "Hugo" is ready to go when you are, and he is ready and waiting for your deposit, to hold him while you make arrangements for transport. Don't miss this dog of a life time, he is a one of a kind and we love him."
When I hear a sales pitch that is that strong, I tend to worry. And who has 24 hours to spend with a dog? I spend a LOT of time with my dogs, but that kind of comment makes me wonder if the dog has severe seperation anxiety or something. 3 years old and still at the breeders...not x-rayed...vague mention of being "highly obedience trained" and having "completed agility training" without anything other than his words to verify it. Seriously, is there any way that price is a type-o? Otherwise I'm baffled at this guy's optimism in his own ability to power sell.

$7500 is more in the neighborhood if you're talking about a breed surveyed (KKL1 not 2), titled, imported, normal hips/elbows young dog who is breeding material...not a pet w/a microchip, lol. Not to say he isn't a great dog...but sheesh.

The unfortunate thing is other people, thinking the more you pay the better the dog, have paid obscene prices for such a dog so the breeder sets his price accordingly. It is good you have done some research before buying. I noted that on their web site reviews from other *satisfied* owners saying that the dog they purchased was worth every penny. That tells me those owners had never had a dog worth every penny.

You know I think this might be a scam. I was curious as to whether he would give me the exact line so I tried to email him requesting information on the dog named Hugo but my ISP wont let me... I get the message that "The message could not be sent" and that "The rejected e-mail address was 'edwardeh@paulbunyan.net'.
Server Response: 553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA"...?
Seems funky to me.

Tina, I live in Minnesota. I am currently training at Minnesota Valley Schutzhund Verein, I have two working line GSD's, other members have working dogs as well, so if you want to stop by and check them out you are more than welcome to.
Seriously, those people are out of their mind wanting to charge that much for a dog like that. They prey on people that are not very knowledgeable. Send me a PM if you wanna stop by the club
