I keep Danke thin (actually, she keeps herself thin, LOL), and I can see some of her ribs. I thought she looked underfed.
It's just too hard to see it on that video, I guess.
The video they aired last night on the news, showed a dog with hips literally jutting out, I could count every rib on the poor dog. She looked like skin stretched over bone.
It is hard to tell how thin the dog was in the little online video. Most Mals I've met are very thin, but also obviously strong. Couldn't tell with that one.
Didn't see what you mean, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt...
Sometimes when a dog is inhaling (or while eating) or hot on a track, I think the ribs are much more prominent on a thin dog. All my dogs' ribs are easily seen/felt, and Caleb has a build that his hips usually are showing. He has to eat a RIDICULOUS amount of food to make this go away...I stopped caring about the comments. Actually, to be honest, I didn't stop. I never cared.
You could be right Alyssa, or it could be what I mentioned. The dog may not look as bad in person, breathing normally.
Edit-Actually, you can see the hips/pelvic bones in the picture. Yes, the dog is skinny. If it were my dog, I'd add 5 lbs. If you keep a dog thin, it has little to no room for any weight loss due to stress, weather or activity changes, heat cycles, etc. I hesitate to throw stones when I don't know the situation, b/c my dogs have looked like that a time or two.

Edit reason: Saw the pic
I agree, the dog is a bit hippy in that picture. I've also had Luc drop down to that, when he had a sudden influx of activity (got to be active again as my tibia fracture healed). I did put the weight back on him, but he was able to remain active at that lower weight, though it definitely wasn't my ideal for him.
