Thanks for all the input.
I fed him his supper from my hand, it went well, he started looking at my face, I hope thats good.
I traded cages with the kitty, giving the pup the smaller one. I'll cover it next. Also, the cages ARE in the living room, not in the back roomso there's plenty of stuff to watch when he's in the cage, and I DO leave it open when I'm home to supervise.(which is most of the time )
Elizabeth, when the pup hides..let him have his safety..Wherever he is hiding under..Get close..lay down..appearing as no threat. If you are still, His curiosity will bring him out from "His shelter/safety"...If he does gain the confidence to move from his shelter..give him some food..Even if he budges out of that shell a few inches..praise him with food..But don't touch him..Praise by voice then move away...so he can think about what just happened. "One step at a time"..
Not to sound like I am putting a damper on your efforts to help this pup but this looks like a tragedy waiting to happen, especially when it becomes an adult. If the pup really has chow in it then that is his first BIG issue. This pup sounds like it has really bad nerves and genetics. I once ran into a Chow pup that did the SAME exact thing, pick it up and it would scream bloody murder. It's not fun being afraid of EVERTHING. Not to say you can't improve on the pup, just be aware you can NEVER fully trust the dog. I see the pup growing up to become a fear biter and that equals a very dangerous situation, especially if the dog is around children. Good luck and keep us posted.
He's not as bad with the screaming now as he was the first week, the hand feeding and keeping a lead on him is helping, we're going for a ride today to the park, IF it stops raining.
