I'll trade ya.
I was thinking the same thing. Not all dogs bark. I own what many consider a yappy breed and own a dog who rarely makes a sound. He's confident and outgoing but his preference is the howl.

I'm with you Rich.
Since getting Enoch (a GSD)I've remembered how nice it was to have a Siberian Husky. They never bark. Doorbell rings, nothing. Stranger coming in the house, nothing. This is not Enoch.
Hans only barks when something surprises him. Unfortunately, just about everything that happens is a complete and total surprise to him.
No, not really. But no one surprises us anymore because well before they can get close enough to knock on the door or ring the doorbell Hans is on the job barking and alerting and coming to get us if we don't come running to see who the intruder is right away.
Or a cat, or a kid in the park across the street or a ...
We get these windows salesmen coming through the neighborhood. And they don't come one at a time. They come in droves. It's like all the companies use the same prospecting software and come to our neighborhood over about a two week period. And they don't want to take "no" for an answer. They want to argue if you don't want a "free" estimate.
Here is how it used to go. Hans starts going nuts. Barking and growling at the front door. Finally someone knocks on the door or rings the doorbell. Me or my wife grab Hans and take him into the kitchen and set up the gate. Then the other one answers the door and if it a window salesman spends five minutes trying to get rid of him.
Here is how it goes now. Hans starts going nuts. Barking and growling at the front door. My wife grabs him and takes him down the hallway where he can see the front door and hangs onto him. The salesman knocks on the door or rings the doorbell. I answer it. The salesman can see my wife holding Hans back. I say we aren't interested and the salesman says "OK" and leaves.
I don't even open the storm door, I just open the door with a big dog barking like mad on either side while I hold their collars and shake my head no. They leave quickly.
If I want to buy something I will go out and get it myself!!
I really would be more than happy to trade for a quiet dog though, with two hounds and a NOISY husky it is really vocal around here.
To the OP...
Does your dog vocalize at all?
If so you could use marker training to train him to speak and maybe gradually work your way up to a full blown bark.
