I can say the same about my boy Rommel 1 year ago last October. It was peaceful, but it was also one of those nights he didn't sleep upstairs in our room. He was getting old and his hips were shot so climbing stairs was difficult.
My condolences for the OP's loss and I know where you're at. I feel for you and hope you can find some comfort that there was no suffering.
I am glad it appears to have been peaceful and pain free, but I am sad that I was not with her. I breaks my heart even more that she had to die alone
A Hospice nurse once told me sometimes loved ones need to be alone in order to give themselves permission to go. This is a phenomena which occurs in nature too. Do not feel sad she was alone; I truly believe that was her choice. I am so sorry for your loss. You will be in my thoughts.
Thank you for all the kind words. I had actually forgotten how much it hurts to lose one, my last dog was killed suddenly a couple months before I got Jenna at 8 weeks old, so it has been quite a few years.
I had a REALLY hard time taking care of all the other dogs and animals yesterday. Jenna is my helper, she always followed me around and watched the gates of the chicken pens (those critters are sneaky gate jumpers). She was such a good dog and listened, almost infallibly, to everything I said. She seemed to instinctually know what I wanted, even if it was not something she had actually been trained to do (like guarding the gates).
She definitely left holes in more than one area of my life. I know, while I will have dogs that I love as deeply, I will never have another dog like Jenna.
