Didn't see the episode but they are headed for big trouble...may not have anything serious happen until their prey drive kicks in and by then it will be too late...for the child or children it attacks especially if they don't seek any formal training.

i havent seen it, dont get that on AFN yet, but the german shepherd forums have been a buzz with it. I made the mistake of not researching the breed before I got Matilda and it seems they have made the same.

I hate watching that show. I never liked it since the first episode they showed. I don't bother watching it at all.

I'm understanding of a lack of knowledge on a breed. People make that mistake often. I did it with my last dog, a Siberian husky, and boy did I learn my lesson. But I think everyone knows the hard work and time it takes with a puppy. It's like having a child. We watched Enoch like a hawk because he loved to ingest everything. To me that seems like common sense. I couldn't imagine doing it with twins and sextuplets. I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, I find the show pretty annoying. Mostly because of the parents but I had Enoch out and usually I put something on that I don't care to watch because I'm busy watching Enoch, lol. He's at the age where he's into testing you. But I was unpleasantly surprised by what I saw. Geesh!

Yes I love john and kate but the first thing I thought about was kids getting bit.
Or worse you know they will try to take the apraoch of we need a trainer and hire one. Still wont work but yes many warning signs.
And I like the show

I posted about this about a week ago.
I believe, as others have said on my post, that they did it for ratings and, maybe, so Kate wouldn't look like a mean mom by saying "no, we aren't getting a dog, yet". I think it was a decision they jumped into a little too hastily. One puppy would have been fine, not two at the same time. Also, I would have thought they would've gone with a dog that's more their speed (lab, golden, etc.), basically a dog that is more mellow, I guess.
I agree that they should hire a trainer, and tell their kids that if they don't pick up their toys that the puppies will be given away. JMO.
And I do like watching it occasionally-Kate gets on my nerves a little bit with how wound up she is.

Sorry Keleah, I didn't know. Sometimes I can't catch every post because so many are posted. So this topic has already been worked over. The end. lol

maybe one of the mod's can merge the two threads together???
i just wanted to say i watched the episode and was infuriated with Jon's comments about why he wasn't going to stop the pup from running around and jumping EVEN THOUGH SHE JUST CAME OUT OF SURGERY!!!!
He said the he wasn't going to bother trying to keep her quiet and that she was an outside dog and he couldn't stop her from jumping around. And they proceed to show this pup racing around the back yard with the other pup jumping & rolling around with brand new stitches.
His answer was "yeah right, how can I stop her from doing that!"
uhhh....crate her and keep her seperated from the other pup. At least for a few days.
im not impressed
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

But you watched. I'd say the puppy stunts on this show have so far paid for them selves ten times over in publicity dollars - this isn't the only forum discussing the show, and it's likely caused countless people to tune in when they otherwise wouldn't. Let's remember, the purpose of most televised programing these days has nothing to do with setting good standards for the American public to follow, it's about getting ratings, ergo advertising dollars - and what better way to appeal to the masses than to show them other people behaving badly... works every time.
