I've managed to teach her "revier" for the blind search soley with trees and snowball rewards this winter on our walks in the woods. It has completely transferred to our formal training.
That sounds like a ridiculously cute way to train the exercise. I think it's very important that you get a video of this and post it as soon as possible. I HAVE to see that!
(What a gorgeous girl too; don't you just love those sables? Lol)
I started by teaching her to take a "mark" with a visual cue of my outstretched hand in the direction I wanted her to go. I started really close to a random tree and then marked it with a click when she touched it with her nose and rewarded with a snowball throw. (She already knows shaping so that was easy.)
Then I waited to reward for an "around" the tree. Then I proceeded to add distance.
I was amazed when it transferred to formal training with a blind and a helper standing behind me rewarding with a bite. That part you can see here...
Ingenious method, especially with the use of such readily available "equipment" (trees and snow, lol).
Your photos are beautiful, so professional-looking too. And yes, I can't help but notice the look of excitement on Ellie's face when she's charging around those blinds
(Don't forget the video. I can remind you again in a few days if you'd like )
Thanks Sarah (hey, if you can think of a better nickname for him I'd like to hear it!)
Aja is coming along too, but nothing worth posting yet. Still just foundation work & the different little components of the exercises, but we have yet to put them all together. (In the meantime there are some updated pics in my gallery if you'd like to see just how ridiculously cute she is, lol).
