I sit at the sofa and he can see around it and look out the door. How short should the tether be?
Short enough that you can see his every move; he cannot be out of sight. I have a 6-foot piece of an old cotton line.
I do not want to add info because you are getting excellent info now from others. My question is: He sees out the closed door, you mean? Is there a way just for now, for a very short time, while you work with him, to block that view? (It can certainly be worked around, if not. Just trying to get a picture.) And have you done any focus work at all? (Not at all a criticism: just wanting to know where you are with him.)
no funny, I leave the door open so that he could look out. The sofa is very close to the door. Maybe it is not a good idea for now. Thaks for all the great info. I now know what I can do to develop his new behavior. Focus work?
I have been building focus by slowly adding duration to things like down and sit and working more on "watch me" and started out by playing the food shell game and now working on "leave it"
