As of today my new behavior to work on is sitting calmly while being wiped with a towel.
Me, the dog, the hallway and the floor are now covered in mud.
you could train it by marking when they do close them, but that would take some seriously awesome timing.
You will be amazed how quickly they learn with marker training, I prefer to use a clicker, because I talk to much and also because they seem to "get it" faster for me, but I know lots of people use a word and it works great too.
Stomachs can twist while “bloating.” This is called “bloat with torsion” and is very, very bad. I have never heard of a dog’s stomach twisting in normal play or training.
I would be very careful with deep chested dogs in the sense of your timing with meals and food. An empty stomach, sure the Jessica is correct. But if they become very active before or after eating a meal then the chance of bloat becomes increased. We had a Shepherd that survived bloat not once but twice before having the surgery. Thank god we were both home and it was not a 360 degree twist. Since then we are very very careful of when we give them water and food after high levels of activity. Our specialist surgeon told us to wait on feeding 1 hour before and 2 hours after any kind of heavy activity or even light. Knock on wood... we have not had this repeat with our last three Shepherds. God I hope I am not spitting into the wind right now and I really do not wish this on anyone, it is not pretty at all and hope I never see it again.
So yes it is very possible that is could happen and I hope this helps clear up the question you had about bloat.

Thanks for the info...I am sorry you had to go through that! I have been thinking about feeding Greta twice a day now that she is going to be turning 5 months, I know some say to wait until 6 months. Now that you are giving a time table on when to have activity, feeding 3 times a day doesn't give much time for training or activity. Also she doesn't seem very food motivated when training unless it is before breakfast. She will train for food but gets distracted easily when we are in the backyard even with high value treats. She is very prey motivated but so much so that I cannot train her with toys, she gets way too excited.
Anna about the feeding schedule, we feed our adults twice a day once in the morning and then at night. This was also recommended over the one big feeding schedule.
