Hey Debbie, are you feeding your fish oil in capsules? My own dogs are fine with those, but I have heard of some dogs who seem sensitive to whatever makes up the capsules (some kind of gelatin glycerin mix, I believe). They did fine on the salmon oil once the owners squeezed out the contents of the capsules instead of feeding them whole to the dogs.
Probably a long shot, but it may be worth trying when reintroducing the oil, to make sure it really is the oil they're allergic to and not the capsules.
I concur. Hambone (my husky mix) is one that cannot have gel caps. I thought he was allergic to salmon oil. Turns out not to be the case. Wasted years. Try your dog without the gel cap like Yuko said and hopefully no itching. (AND, he can eat sardines, salmon, and mackerel with no problems.)
No capsules, it's in a pump bottle. Maybe I'm off with this....there have been some other things that I have had to consider. I am going to try adding small amounts back to his food and see what happens.
