I heard on the news that the captain tried to escape at midnight and was recaptured in the water. I wish they could have done something to help him then, rather than let him be taken again once he was away from the pirates. I know this is a difficult situation but their inability to help him once he dared to escape disappoints me.
there is not a civilized country in the world that would say a whole lot if we visited destruction and slaughter on the pirate strong holds. they are criminals by any nation's laws
to quote a movie, they only deserve " A short drop with a sudden stop"
My emotions as well...Obviously would love it done with no innocent life at risk, but this is not always possible, is it?
I didn't realize the raft was covered - that certainly complicates things, doesn't it? I was envisioning a few of our wonderful SEAL team members popping up and dragging the scum bags overboard and whisking the Captain to safety. (Yes, I know, I watch too much TV.)
Bottom line - we (the rest of the world) simply can not let this band of thugs paralyze a major shipping corridor. It only makes sense that as long as they get what they want, there is no motivation to stop pirating...
Well okay,
I agree. Let's just go right in there and clean it up.
It's only a small country with only approx. 10,000,000 people.
I hope all the bad guys have their uniform on so we know who they are, other wise alot more innocents then shipmates are going to pay the ultimate price.
But you're might be right Dennis, the rest of the world probably won't care if we physically take over another country.
Okay,
Let's see here, according to my almanac Somalia has a coast line of 1,880 miles (that is if all the pirates come from Somalia) and I think international law states sovereign territory of governing states is 200 miles out from low tide, do you really propose to mine 2,280 miles of boarder?. Anything inside of that boundry would be considered an act of war.
Consider too, that the international waters beyond that are just that, free territory for all (emphasis on all) traffic, be it shipping, fishing or even pleasure by binding law.
I agree, we can not continue to sit back and watch innocent people trying to ply their trade held hostage by a few rouges in the world.
I wish I had some realistic ideas.
