Vince , after reading my post I have to admit its totaly the trainer(ME) and not the dog.I guess I am to soft when I see how comfortabe she is laying there. I have mentioned that she has great food drive and that is how I introduce a command or trick. I'm big on tricks. The problem with food is she just goes over the top (Eds bell curve).I'll use treats to introduce a behavior, but will quickly goto praise so she can concetrate. In the house when we have eye to eye contact and she doesn't see anything in my hand she will just lay there.I let her slide on this becaue she does everything else so well.I guess I have to use the long lead and praise.
As has been mentioned before, dogs are poor at generalizing. So if you train in the park, the dog will mind in the park. If you train in the yard, the dog will mind in the yard, If you train in the house... You have to train and be consistant in all these places or the dog will only brhave where he thinks you are serious.
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
Exactly. I generally let sleeping dogs lie, so there ya go! If I really care about whether my dog will come to me from a comfortable spot, then I need to work on that. Basically, it's my own fault when my dog has shortcomings in his obedience.
