... I also like when he "speaks" from the dog's perspective - very interesting.
And this is not in a people-izing way, either. I believed him when he presented a dog's thoughts. I completely believed that this could be what the dog's perception of something might be.

The internal dialogue he gives to Almondine near the end was among the most profound stuff I've ever read.
For whatever reason, when reading the book I assigned my Leonberger, Ellie's face to Almondine, in my mind's eye...and now I cannot look at her without imagining the thoughts behind those eyes....

... I should have just gone to the library.
Maybe I will anyway.
Good luck with that. The library where I live (including the university) have it on a wait list. (That's typical of such a new book, but also this one is so talked-about....)
I want to mention that we posting here should probably not say much more about things that I would LOVE to talk about, like any dog's occasional interior dialogue, etc., because of the "spoiler" aspect.
I would even say that I was very glad that I had not read Amazon's reader reviews, the top negative one especially (FULL of spoilers), until after I read the book. (That is a warning to those who have not read it. )
I did know, of course, that it was not a brightly cheery ending; everyone knows that from talk shows, the print ads, and the "professional" reviews. Beyond that, I am glad I did not know details.
I loved this book. I read it far more slowly than normal when I got to the halfway point, because I wanted to stay in it longer.
