You know how people with serotonin shortages often crave carbs (and it's the strongest kind of "crave"; it's more like a compulsion)? My understanding is that glucose-supported tumors trigger the same kind of compulsive craving in some individuals.
I would say that she is one of those individuals if you see her carrying a bag of mini bagels or asleep covered with bread-crumbs with an empty bread-bag nearby.
I will see if I can find something that might help to assuage the cravings. Have you tried giving her small high-protein snacks throughout the day?

Interesting, I had no idea about seratonin shortages causing carb cravings.
I would definately call this a compulsion since she is stealing food!
She is eating a combo of THK and EVO right now.
The THK does have quinoa in it, but being a low glycemic carb I guess it doesn't quell the compulsion.
She does tend to get cheese or bits of meat or kosher hot dogs throughout the day, maybe I need to make that more of an actual snack.
How about doing the THK in the morning and the EVO in small amounts during the day?

... I have also noticed that when I tell her back she will sometimes sit, or when I tell her down she will back up etc. Basic commands she has known for years and years. ...
About this ... I am curious. Is she hungry when this happens? I'm just thinking about glucose being diverted from the brain to the tumor(s). I'm not quoting from anything; it's nothing but my rambling mind. I would like to find something that might back up the idea of giving her small protein-and-fish-oil snacks. I may be completely off-track. What would it take to get the glucose from, say, yogurt and produce to the brain and circumvent the hungry tumor?

I don't know if she is truly hungry or not, honestly she would eat anything I gave her at any time and as fast as she could.
She is literally always hungry.
She only has the two very small newish tumors that I know of, but that doesn't mean there aren't any internal ones that I don't know about.
I do know that her bloodwork two weeks ago was close to perfect, He said it was better than he expected for a dog her age and way better than expected for a dog her age with cancer. I don't have the actual numbers since there wasn't a problem but I could get them if I need to.

I have also noticed and increase in drooling and panting. Granted its been in the high 90s with high humidity so its pretty warm in the house even with AC But its not so warm the husky seems uncomfortable.
As far as the drooling, I will just notice she has a big string of slobber hanging down at random times.

Being bi-polar, I can absolutely say carb cravings are compulsive when serotonin levels drop. I couldn't stop eating donuts etc even though I knew I was full I still stuffed and stuffed.
So, Nico may very well have glucose dropping and cravings circumvent training. It would explain her hunger also if the cancer is asking for food, she is feeding it.
How about sardines as a snack? High protein, omega 3 are good for brains. Also, is she on the Grizzly oil? It is higher in DHA than EPA which would feed her brain before her skin and coat.
Little snacks through out the day may stave off the carb cravings...I still suspect that it may not be the carbs alone, but the fat in it also -- Bad fat, but fat none the less.

Also, I have read that yogurt mixed with fish oil, then blended in the blender is good also.
See below for more information.

Do I believe this will cure Nico? That isn't why I am giving these links. I believe these links will help fill Nico up so she won't be tempted to eat all the time and will also help her cognition.
good luck with your girl. Keep us posted, please?
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |

The good news is she seems to have no sense of taste and will eat whatever weird concoction of supplements and herbs I add to her food.
Is there a particular reason that blending the yogurt with the fish oil would be more effective then just giving yogurt with some fish oil globbed on top.
Also, I am reading the page with the Budwig diet.
Why are they using cottage cheese and Flaxseed oil instead of Yogurt and fish oil. It was my understanding that dogs can't convert Flax like people can.
Right now she is getting her 2 Phycox with an added turmeric capsule from the health food store, yogurt in the morning with her THK and Kefir in the evening with her EVO.
Along with her grizzly oil and vitamin E.

Well, the protocol was developed 60 years ago. Also, the diet was developed for humans.
Considering that it was for humans, and it was ages ago, and cottage cheese was not the bowl o'salt that it is now, and live-culture yogurt was still pretty much limited to Eastern and Northern Europe, it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the information Connie.
I am going to get some sardines later today to blend with some yogurt during that day as a snack.

Jennifer,
A little off topic (but since she was in the trash) be especially careful about bags in the garbage can. In the last year, there was a local story about a dog that suffocated by getting his head stuck in a potato chip bag. It was something that I never thought of as a danger. And, if she is truly compulsive might even pursue crumbs in a bag.
