Well I just dropped three crickets in his cage and they were gone in a flash, poor little thing must have been hungry!
Also, the people said I needed terrium moss to mist for him. It is dry now but apparently will start to grow when moisture is added.
Is this a good idea to attach to the top of his little hidey log or not?
I just happened to have the 10 gallon sitting around empty, I will switch him to the 55 as soon as I have a stand and a place to put it.
I might have to re-home my goldfish to make room for a big lizard cage...but that is ok.

They are from a dry climate...I don't know about the misting. They are desert lizards. I never added humidity for them. I did soak them occasionally, but never added moisture to their enclosure. I had a great cage that I loved. It was unbreakable; it was kind of a screening around a plastic frame w/a zippered top. They could climb all over it, up and down it, hang upside down, etc. and there was zero chance of excape. Let me see if I can find what it was. If I have any equip for a larger tank (I think I still have light fixtures for a 55L) I will let you know. You can have them if I didn't pitch them.

Look up Apogee Reptariums. Mine was a different brand, but basically the same thing. With this, you can put him outside for REAL sunlight, which is very important, w/out blocking UV rays w/plexiglass or baking him alive w/glass. Loved this thing.

Thanks!
I already re-did his cage a bit, that fake wood piece was too big and I couldn't situate it well enough to get him an optimum basking spot. I now have a stack of granite in the corner and Im going to go look at grapevine branches tomorrow.

Congrats on your beardie. They are one of the coolest, cutest little lizards ever.
As you may have seen from other people the real sunlight thing is very important. You will need a UVA and UVB bulb for winter months. I prefered to get seperate bulbs for my birds but I believe you can get combo bulbs now.
Also beardies are one of those reptiles where as juveniles they will eat themselves to death so just a few crickets a day rather than a load of them. At this point in life he's mostly a carnivore although eventually he will get over to the omnivore side of things. At that point his diet is very much like an iguana with bugs.
Also as a personal preference I usually didn't start handling the little guys until their body length was over 6 inches. Before that they're just so very breakable. I never had a problem with unfriendly beardies starting at the larger size.
Oh and BTW good choice over the anole. Anoles and Golden geckos are very likely my least favorite pet lizards.

Very cool. I've done a lot of critters in my life; hamsters, frogs, mice, fish of every kind, a few birds, dogs, cats, and now chickens - but never reptiles. If I were to do so, it would be with a bearded dragon. They grow into really neat looking creatures! Does he/she have a name yet?

How fast do these guys grow?

Hard to say how fast. Nothing to compare it to. In a few mos, s/he should be in the bigger tank. I'd expect him/her to be a few inches longer by then. I only got the evil monster as a tiny baby. The others were adults when I got them, so I would take what I say w/a grain of salt, b/c that monster was NOT normal.

but iguanas are obligate herbivores...meat from any source is actually harmful to them..

I adopted a Spiny-tailed Iguana that was in bad shape. His diet had been canteloupe. That's it; just canteloupe. He was very passive at first, (DUH), but after I had gotten him wormed and on a more appropriate meat-based diet..... Yaaaaargh! I had to catch him with a THICK towel and toss him in the bathtub to clean his enclosure.
Jenni's story of the lizard vs. pit story reminded me of him. He repeatedly took on my Dobie (and won). He would stand up very straight on his three inch legs and hiss/growl(loudly); anyone with sense would start back-pedaling. He was an escape artist as well and I would come home to find Mingus up on the bed for safety and Godzilla hanging from the mini-blinds over my canaries' aviary and lusting for them.
