I'd have to look and see if they even have that around here, and how much it is - but honestly, I'm not sure I could handle that if you know what I mean! The thought of cutting up an actual tongue sounds so disgusting! I've learned to live with the smell of beef liver, but for some reason the tongue sounds worse!
Tracy, I never thought of asking if Costco can sell it in bulk (I don't have a Sam's membership) - how do you even get 85lbs in a cart?!

You don't, you get the Costco bag boy to haul it out for you!! lol
I would think the tongue would actually be less smelly than liver.....but i would think it would be pretty tough to cut!
Do you have any Farmer's Market's or anything like that around your area?
Sometimes You can get great deals on items that aren't considered $ items and would usually just get tossed.
And $1.89 lb for ground beef is a good deal. We have a store here that sells ground beef in a tube and it's usually pretty cheap. But I jsut can't trust meat that comes from a tube.
Wendy, I purchase 5 & 10 lb rolls(tubes) of 80/20 ground beef & ground turkey from a wholesale restaraunt supplier ALL THE TIME without any issues. I don't understand why you see a problem with trusting this. I have also seen ground beef packaged in COSTCO that has been cut from large rolls & placed in a package still in the shape of the roll. I used to purchase this 4 years ago, before I was buying from the wholesaler. The cheaper price is due to the large quantity that you buy when buying in 10lb tubes. Most people don't have a need for that kind of high volume quantity of meat...ergo...most are sold to restaraunts. Actually, they are hermetrically (sp)sealed & that is a far better seal then the regular supermarket packaging.

Anne, the tubes of ground beef that im talking about are at A grocery store called Food Basics. Although they do have great prices on Grocery Items...I don't always trust that their meat is the best quality all the time. If i was buying from a Restaurant supplier it would be different. But tubed meat from a Discount Grocery store is not quite the same thing....lol

Size?...The Sam's Club hamburger in bulk comes in a case the size of a rolling carry-on suitcase. About that. Inside are 8 tubes of ground meat about the size of a human arm. I can fit all of it on 2 shelves in my standup freezer.
Sam's has big shopping carts, and I have a Honda element.
Tongue cheap? I'm jealous. I'd love to feed beef tongue more often, but I can never find it for less that $2.59. The same Sam's Club I keep talking about also sells tongue---and it costs more than brisket. Go figure.
Wendy, I guess under those circumstances, (discount store?)I might question it also. But I would think that the state & local health departments would be all over them if there were problems with this product on any repeated basis.
