I love our DIY grooming place, I'm grateful for the service every time I use it. My dog gets a bath minimally every 2 weeks in order to be super-clean for therapy visits. It's pricier than doing it at home, but cheaper than calling out the plumber for the hair clogs. I love the high powered blow-dryer, too. You can see hair fly off the dog, which makes me happy, as I know it's not coming home with us.
I wash my GSD in the backyard but will need to find a DIY place once the cold winter months hit here soon. I leash her to a pole and make her sit/stand when scrubbing her down. I can generally stay pretty dry as long as she doesn't shake the water off near me. I had my old black lab trained to shake water off on command, so I'm trying to marker train her to do the same.
my dogs get a bath MAYBE 2x/yr (unless there's a special occasion of some sort).
however, when i do bathe them, it's either outside in summer tied off to the propane tank, and who cares if you get wet, or, if it's inside in the tub, well, you're gonna get wet as well, so just be prepared for it.
you can actually stop a dog fr shaking (if you're alert and quick), by grasping an ear at the base--not pinching, just kinda grad it gently if that makes sense. this'll stop a shake that's just beginning, but again--you have to watch the dog and know the signs of an imminent shake. and there are a few that it doesn't work on (disclaimer, lol)!!
i really want a big tub/shower set-up w/removable shower head....
