If you haven't already, send a follow up note to the vet, thanking her for her time and for considering you as an applicant. Doesn't hurt to add how much you would enjoy working for her.
It's one of those little things that makes a good impression and sets you apart from all the other people applying for the job.

I plan on giving the vet a call on Monday or Tuesday, to follow up and see where they are at in their hiring process. She had told me that it would be sometime next week when they would start setting up interviews.
As far as the grocery store interview, I told them I'd have to talk to the day care provider before I let them know. I don't know if she does weekends (I know most don't) and if she doesn't I won't be able to take the job there. I had told them I could do weekends, but I thought about it afterwords (of course) and know that if the daycare can't watch my daughter then I either can't take the job or I have to find a dependable babysitter for the weekends that my hubby doesn't work. And that, to me, is too much a PITA. I know that the job at the vet clinic would be the best for working with the daycare and my hubby's schedule.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the clinic job!

Well, could you do the grocery store job and then start up the online vet assistant study? Then the next time you look for a job your chances would be a lot better at getting a vet tech position.

I could do that, but it's a matter of whether or not the daycare provider does weekends or IF I can find a reliable babysitter for the weekends when my husband is working. I only moved to town last year in June, so I don't know very many people yet.
If the grocery store job won't work because I can't find a babysitter or daycare on weekeneds and I don't get the vet clinic job, I have been thinking about talking to the salons here in town and maybe going back into hair styling-this will depend on if they are booth rental, commision based or hourly wage (hourly wage would be the best, then I'd know I'd have a stable paycheck).
I do have other options for work as well, it's just a matter of the scheduling (hubby's, mine and daycare). I just have to see what I can do. And regardless of what job (if any) that I get I will get signed up for online vet tech classes.

I thought this too, but the position at the vet clinic is for a receptionist/customer service rep. with the possiblity of helping the vet with some of the patients (I assume if one of the vet assist. or techs is not there at the time), not for a vet tech.

I just wanted to add that I wish you the best of luck finding a job. I also wanted to say experience is a double edge sword from my experience in this field. It is mainly dependent on the size of the hospital and position you are going for. Plus at least in my area the price scale in the vet office is techs getting paid the most, receptionists, assistants, then kennel workers the least. And these are starting wages. Most clinics prefer experience for their techs of course but for the other positions after that, I have seen clinics wanting to more so have people who haven't been in the field. This could be due to them not wanting to pay people for their experience, but from my standpoint I believe the clinics want to have things trained their way only and don't want to deal with conflicting methods learned from other places. I have worked at a few clinics and this is just my experience as I have never observed the same methods used at any of them.
I also feel that the receptionist position is the one position that gives you experience you can take into any job more so than any other position in the veterinary field. I think if this is a stepping stone, definitely keep that in mind as a receptionist is the same just about whatever field you may be in. I hope I added a little bit more of a perspective. Again, this is all from my standpoint and experience. Either way, again, good luck.
