Yet another 'symptom' to add...she had bad gas last evening. Again, I didn't think much of it until now. She'd snuck a few mouthfuls of the other dog's food while I was distracted, I just assumed that was the reason.
My dogs tend to eat and sometime rejurgitate grass. I don't worry too much about it, because we don't use anything as far as fertilizers or pesticides on it.
How different is the food your feeding the other dogs, from your pups food? Just a difference of puppy formula and adult? And, what kind of food, if I may ask, do you feed?
How long would you guess that your pup has had loose (pudding) stool?
When you talk to your vet, be sure to ask if they've heard of any parvo cases in your area. And if the vet thinks that you should vaccinate again, ask if they can titer first. Especially if your dog is sick (not with parvo) because that won't help her immune system fight whatever it is she might have.
It could also be a case where it's just her food. Some dog food companies will reformulate their kibbles without making it known, and that may be a possible cause.
I read about cases of parvo locally, that's why I'm in such a panic.
Acana Adult vs. Acana Large Breed Puppy. Probably not that much of a difference. I will check to see if Acana changed their food. They did once before and our last dog had an issue with that.
I would guess the loose stool problem has been going on for a few days--3 or 4--judging by the number of puddles I found. Though maybe she was just going alot each day...so it could have been only a day or two...because none of the puddles looked dried up.
I would do what Connie said, give your pooch a very plain, small meal of over cooked rice in a no sodium/no added sodium chicken broth. That should help to stabalize her stools.
With most dry dogs foods there really isn't that big of a difference between adult and puppy forumlas. Most of the time-from what I've read-some companies will add adult formula kibble in smaller forms to puppy food. And if your last dog had a problem after a formulation change with the same food, I'd definitely consider that an issue.
3-4 days isn't that long (IMO) to think the worst. My lab was having runny stools for a bit longer than that and he then started losing hair (in addition to his hot spot and ear infection we found out at the vet). He has an allergy to (we believe) EVO, which is an all natural food. Only him, not our other two.
I would definitely give the vet a call on Monday and ask them if they've heard of any cases of parvo or have been treating dogs for it. My vet recently told me that she had heard of cases of parvo in the nearby towns and advised getting my dogs the vaccine if they haven't had it in 2-3yrs. My saint would be fine, since she's only a year old, but I told her that on my other two I'd like to have titers run to see if they are still carrying antibodies for it before giving the shot. I'd be happy to spend the extra money (even though we're short on funds right now) to get the titers before giving unnecessary shots.
Stool sample shows CLOSTRIDIUM spores. Picking up antibiotics tomorrow. (She seemed better yesterday after a day of fasting. Her stools were firming up, still smushy but not runny. Then last night she had another mistake in the house, cow patty consistency, and again outside this morning.)
I'm going to start a new topic for this ongoing problem since I can't edit the original post, I hope that's alright, but wanted to bump this up if anyone was looking for a bit more history.
