I am so glad to hear he seems to be better. I am recovering from the H1N1(Memphis Tn area) and I and my daughter have had this for two weeks now. After hearing this I am so thankful that has not happened to us.

Without getting too graphic they've decided that surgery is required tomorrow to restore correct lung functions. His left lung collapsed today but happily they were able to restore function on that side. Since his lungs are right now operating at about 40-60% together we're a little worried about this option but it's his best chance for recovery.
They're suspecting at this point we're dealing with MRSA.
MRSA infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria — often called "staph." MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It's a strain of staph that's resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mrsa/DS00735

Well I just got home a bit ago from dropping off my in law's Birthday cards, he's 32 today. The surgery went well and he is now the owner of a drain he'll be living with the next 5 days. He's breathing much better, is in a lot of pain, and is a little pissy which is better than hallucinating, in agony, and gasping for air which is where we were yesterday.
The surgery it seems for now was the right move. The crud in his lungs was starting to harden. The surgeon said if they hadn't done this we would have lost him within a week. We'll know in the next few days if this infection will be able to be knocked back by the current antibiotic cocktail he's on.
