Thanks Connie,I really appreciate all your help and I will do as you advised. I will also make the "new vet" visit a must. I just want to make sure that I understand the additional feeding. Just a smaller in between feeding of the same menu items, maybe even an extra chicken back?
The additional chicken back is perfect! Chicken backs are so handy.
I'd peel off the extra globs of fat for now, just until the yellow poop is figured out.
Whatever this is, I promise that we will help you through it. Several members of this board have acquired a lot of canine health info, and particularly around nutrition.
Good advice about definitely getting some things checked out, but a couple more questions. I don't know how big she is, but my female would be borderline "pudgy" at 69 lbs. Do you know how much she's eating daily, weight-wise? The general rule of thumb seems to be 2%-3% of ideal body weight, depending, of course, on activity level, age (more growth expected?), etc. My 5-yr-old female GSD hovers around 65 lbs. or a little less. Her dinner glop (raw + veggies) is about 2%. Morning meal is 1/2-cup Orijen w/ yogurt or an egg.
I wouldn't necessarily go by what other GSDs look like, especially if they're kibble-fed. Both this dog and my precious male GSD are/were always on the lean side which is what is what I'd expect for a raw-fed dog.
Update: Got a vet visit sat. a new partner who is pro raw, well he said with GSD's anyway not sure but better than the last, any way gave a stool sample but he treated her for giardia with panacur c. Since he said it is hard to detect and or catch. She stills has loose stools and now last night had bad gas for the VERY FIRST time ever. They said it might be the panacur c or maybe the giardia is roaring its head. Mike, thanks for the reply got a good weight on her sat. and she is at 63.4lbs a little less than last visit, but wife thinks she is a little thin. Sometimes I can see it and sometimes not so much. I know we need to keep them lean. The vet did not comment on the weight though, maybe she is where she's supposed to be. Anyway 2 days on the panacur c, we will see how the stools and gas situation goes tonight. I'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks a bunch
