Not a typo. Everything I have read says a "maintenance" diet would be 2-3% of BW each day. So that is 1.4 - 2.1lb. a day. Chief needs to gain a little so I've got him closer to 2.4lb. a day which is about 3.4% of his current BW.
Overfeeding per meal is my guess.
I'd back up, because you have to get to where he is not having diarrhea before you can adjust the diet for weight gain (or anything).
I'd probably remove skin/fat, too. His gut is inflamed now. I'd fast for a meal or two if he wasn't so thin, but I'd still do everything (small meals, low fat) until he has perfect poops. This needs to happen asap because only that will confirm that this is diet-related.
Thanks everyone for your help. Chief's diarrhea got a little worse and then he threw up. I switched him to small meals of 1/2C of canned pumpkin with 1/2C of cooked ground beef. He's been eating that since Monday evening. No more throwing up or diarrhea. Last night and this morning I gave him a little more food, but still the same stuff. I will start him back on raw food tonight. 1/4 chicken with skin/fat removed. I'm going to take it super slow this time and make sure he is completely adjusted before making changes. Thanks!!
