Hm, it could be that too! Connie you're just so full of knowledge! Thanks He has always just had really terrible diarrhea. It was so awful, it got all over the place and he got a lot more bathes than we wanted. He was cooperative but you could see how miserable he was!

Well, since it's not the usual allergy stuff (itchy skin, etc.), I would probably consider challenging his system very gently by picking up an organic (don't fall for "all natural") chicken breast half and cutting off a little sliver for him. If no bad results, I'd try a larger slice the next day, etc. (The remainder can be people food, of course.) I'd really be cautious about it; you don't want to to trigger diarrhea and an inflamed gut in the poor guy.
This would give you enough of an answer to know whether it's going to be worthwhile to find a steady source of untreated chicken for a raw diet.
IMO, home-prepared all-raw would be quite a challenge without poultry. There are certainly other meats that could stand in for the RMB part (rabbit, for example), but not at the kind of price tag that poultry carries.
(I buy a brand called Smart Chicken.)

Has anyone ever tried this?
I have. They are very easy to feed and my dog did well with them. Compared to Thor's normal raw meals though, they were expensive.
I used the patties this summer after his surgery. He was having difficulty chewing his bones so would give up and not eat. The Stella and Chewy's worked well for him during his recovery.
I switched him back to his regular raw when he was feeling better but did use them again when I had to kennel him this fall when I moved my son into college.
For convenience and ease of use they can't be beat; I did still supplement his salmon oil and vitamin e but on a daily basis, he ate 4 patties which worked out to over $50 a week.

Thanks Connie, I think we'll give it a try. I'm a health food junkie so I'm extremely picky about what I and my animals eat, which is why I want to switch to raw.
So far the plan will be to switch to these raw patties and the teaspoon of pumpkin tomorrow and if he seems well for a week or two we'll throw in a slice of chicken. Does that sound good so far? You're like my dog life coach

One other thing I just remembered I believe there is a second protein source other than the labeled one for instance Duck had chicken or turkey too, I can't remember so make sure you go through all the ingredients.

And fish oil and E, as Sheila mentioned!
Also, when switching, you will want to start with small frequent meals for this dog, and avoid any diarrhea surprises. That is, I would not give what will eventually be a meal right away. I might give a third of that, and then a half, and so on.

Thanks Sheila!! I read the feeding guide, which I know is sometimes off, because she told us two patties a day if we were feeding Orijen also. It says a 25lb dog should eat 7! I cannot see my Corgi eating 7. Even without Orijen I was thinking two patties. I'm glad you posted and had good results. I want to supplement them too, and they are a bit pricey but they're cheaper than the Orijen. I figured I can feed him these while I learn more about raw feeding.

Will do Connie and Sheila!
Connie, should I feed the small portions a few times a day? For example, feed the third of food three times a day for a bit, then half twice a day, etc?

Which size are they? On their site, scroll down to Feeding Guidelines for the two sizes of patties.
Yes, especially with a dog who has a diarrhea history and especially with pre-made raw (that you can't gradually intro the organ meat), I'd make the first day's total 2/3 or so of the guidelines and I'd give it in small meals. The the poop would tell me if I could start moving towards the recommended amounts.

I noticed the different sizes after I posted. Right now we have the 1.5 oz beef patties, so we'll be starting with those.
The guidelines say 7 1.5 oz patties a day for a 25lb dog and 9 for 35lb. He's a large Corgi, about an inch taller and longer than average and looks great at 30lbs. But that would be 8 patties, and that just sounds like a ton of food. That's 12 oz a day. Is it because the fruits and veggies are mixed in? They're still mostly meat, and I just feel like that would really be overfeeding.
Thanks so much again everyone for all the help. I really appreciate it, and so does Conan!
