Jo, what terrible news. I am so sorry to hear it. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. It seems this is a rough month for a lot of people here on the board. We're all thinking about you and everyone else.
Well, I won't be taking the Pup to see my dad. Hambone has arthritic front feet and I accidently stepped on them when I backed up...he grazed my hamstring in blind defense. He did pull away when he realized what he was doing, but if Dad accidentally stepped on him, I can't guarantee Hambone would pull his bite for my dad. So, questioned answered.
Jo, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. We have a family member and several friends battling cancer at this time....it is a hard row to hoe. May you all find peace and comfort in your love for each other.
ohhhh... so very, very sorry. You, your family and especially your dad are in my thoughts and prayers. It is NEVER easy, but I've always felt that an "advance warning" like this is better than a complete shock out of the blue. May your family find some sense of peace during this difficult time. Hang in there.
Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, empathy and sympathy. Dad is going to stay at home until the end. And, it is a good thing we do know in advance...however short.
Dad had a great dog when he was a teenager. As a Christian, no one talks about animals in heaven, but I can't help but think he gets to be with his dog as well as family.
We are praying for no pain and a good death. Maybe that is blunt, but what else can one ask?

I'm sorry I didn't see this post sooner, Jo. You have my sincerest condolences. It's a hard road.
When my dad passed a few years ago, that was exactly what I asked for for him. Not blunt, very honest and I dare say respectful.
There was a band I was going to audition for at that time and one of the lines from one of their songs kept repeating through my head the day we had to turn his machines off. "So spread your wings and fly, it's a beautiful day to die."
