Doing the dry matter conversion on blue buffalo canned food the protein is 10% and the moisture is 78% and I came up with 12% protein For the Wellness the protein is 8% and moisture is 78% which ends up to be 10% protein. Not as good as I would have thought.

Jennifer Lee Webboard User Reg: 12-16-2007 Posts: 2851 Loc: oklahoma Offline	But do I want to calculate his RER at his desired weight to see how much I should be feeding him. so my math would be 80/2.2 = 36 30 x 36 = 1080 1080 + 70 = 1150 then multiply it by 1.8 for an intact dog since he was neutered late and has a high metabolism I end up up with 2070 That is pretty close to what I calculated I am feeding him since close to 1/4 of the cup is not full for each scoop. According to some other charts I am finding caloric intake rates for very active or working dogs are anywhere from 2 and up to 8 times the RER. He is certainly not a working dog but he seems to burn food like he is!!

Yes. But RER isn't really useful here (to me) except as a rough number for seeing what approximate percentage the added fat would be.

Then I'd work up to double that a day, and see what his body condition was on that. I had no desire or intention to plunge you into a numbers maze.
