Round one of the meat storm is done! Can't say I'm enjoying processing (i.e. bagging) 40 lbs of chicken backs! They're kinda frozen still so we have to wait until the next layer is able to be freed.
But watching Cali eat this morning was amazing. Poop watch is on. Will report.
@Natalya--will check the PM after I get back from errands!

I just want to say to you veterans that I know re-hashing raw feeding to a newbie is tedious. You've probably done it a million times. I am in a similar situation online in another area of my life--but when the new people get it, it feels so worth it. Just know I'm getting it and your efforts making a huge difference to us and to Cali.
In all honesty Linda, I was kinda antsy to read how your dog was doing this morning.
Your enthusiasm about this has kinda been contagious for me. I've enjoyed following the last couple days.
I feel the same way! So excited for you Linda! Right now I'm going to to the store to buy my chicken backs and bag them up for the next month. It's all sorts of fun, isn't it?
Did that a couple days ago.... Thought the dog was going to have a mental breakdown from watching me cut up all that chicken! The puddle of drool that resulted was pretty remarkable.
Logs, baby, logs! (That's the code we use with each other for good poop. ) Three smallish, nicely-formed brown ones. We are on our way! There was a little undigested meat in one poop yesterday, but wasn't alarming to me.
I think I'll do one more day of backs and chicken MM today and tomorrow, then move onto backs and some beef MM Wed. Then necks on Th. I am making myself take it slow.
Not sure I'm going to eat chicken again for a while after smelling 40 lbs of backs! Today it's onto 40lbs of necks! That should do me in! Preparing all this and planning it out has also pointed out to me that I don't pay enough attention to what I eat and how it makes me perform and feel--maybe even look. The bonus of this whole process is making me take an objective look and know I often don't make the right choices or eat as well as I could.

Congratulations!! I remember (well, it was only like a week ago) seeing Conan's first totally solid, normally shaped log after years of skinny, gooey, messy poops. That alone tells me that this is the diet dogs were meant to eat.
I'm glad it's given you a perspective on your own health! I'm opposite, such a health junkie for myself I had to be one for the dogs too

Well, if the smell of raw chicken has you off meat for a while, just wait until you start preping piles of raw kidney and liver! I swear, the smell takes DAYS to get out of my hands!! (I'm not fond of wearing gloves because I feel clumsy in them... so bare hands it is.)
So glad to hear every thing's "coming out okay" too...

The backs, quarters, etc. don't bother me so much but I must admit that the smell of liver is a little overwhelming at first.
Glad to hear everything is going well, Linda! I recently made the switch to raw as well (this summer). Doesn't it feel great to prep a raw meal for your pup? I find it much more gratifying than tossing a scoop or two of kibble into the bowl.
Poops are amazing! A fraction of what they were, nicely formed and no pudding! I can't believe how much she was pooping by comparison.
She is jumping out of her skin happy at meal times, and all-in-all I think it's going great!
Quick question--I cut the meat off two chicken breasts for the fam dinner last night leaving some meat on them akin to what I see on her chicken backs. I can give her breast bones as her RMBs for the day, right? She's trying bison as MM tomorrow!
A friend is giving us his freezer-burned venison from him kills last year. Awesome!

Yes, those are fine for her to eat.
It'll probably be enough for the day. Hard for me to picture exactly how much meat and bone we are talking about, but this is where some of the learning of the dog's gut and their optimal meat to bone ratio comes into play.
A lot of people remove some meat from bone-in breast and give the dogs the rest.
Just pay attention to the outcome of the breast day and adjust from there. Too soft=need more bone. Too hard=need more meat.
I know that you already know this. I have a habit of endlessly repeating myself. I have a habit of endlessly repeating myself.
