yup, formal recall with sit-front is an entirely different thing. i have to applaud matt and wife for their creativity and for making the learning fun for the pup. being able to recall your dog in any situation is vitally important. at the tender age of 4 months, the last thing this baby needs is drilling, "repetitive" excercises just so he can learn recall. the only thing i would suggest is that you use different commands for formal and informal recalls. (i use "come" for informal and "heir" for formal...when i expect a sit-front and attention)

Thanks for the praise, but the creativity came from Ed. We have been keeping the training a fun game and no drilling. He really enjoys it. His face just lights up, tongue out and smiling!!
In the beginning when he was 8-9 weeks old (before we had the obedience dvds) we were over-doing it, trying to teach him everything. We now know better. I hope I am able to guide him into becoming a great dog!!
