Kellie, they sure are swollen. You are right; 20 minutes doesn't seem excessive to me, either.
I hope he makes a full recovery, and yes, you certainly would not want to let him play with it again. Since he must like to grip things between his 'wrists', maybe a soccer ball that's not fully inflated would work?
I was thinking of that actually, thanks for the suggestion. He has played with soccer balls before, and eventually destroys them, but it is definitely worth it--it makes him happy and doesn't hurt his 'wrists'. I mainly just wanted to let others know of the possible damage this toy can cause if your dog plays with it the way mine did. I thought most dogs gripped it with their legs, as this is the only way they can, but every dog is different, and the combination just equated badly for my guy. Thanks again for your sympathies, I am sure he will recover fine
Yeah, I looked the Orbee soccer ball up, it is only 5 inches wide though. I think I am going to try the Jolly Ball, it is 10 inches--more like the size he likes. Thanks!
I use the cosmos ball with small bits of food inside as reward for going to kennel. my dog rolls it around until all the food pieces come out. cosmos ball is very good for this. It is also a way for a smaller dog to engage with this toy.
I have an Egge and it is a huge hit. No wrist or any other issues with my dog. We have a pond that we keep clear for ice skating, and when I am clearing or skating I have my dog out with me on the ice with the Egge: she gets a LOT of very good exercise chasing it on ice...I also stick handle it with hockey stick and we play with me on skates (so I can keep up as it skitters over the ice) and the dog running. Egge does tend to go to lowest spot, either get stuck in ditch or low spots in woods.
A bonus is that she has kept her nails short this winter in the process of chasing the Egge.
She LOVES the Egge. So while OP has a real concern with Egge, it has worked well for my dog, a Beauceron.
