"Would you shock/jerk your kids around!?"
Yes.....Oh wait.....That wasn't a real question to be answered, was it?

Horrible!!! Just Horrible!!!
And yes, i've gone to a few other dog sites, and get that re-action too.
You think I should what???

I just grin as their dogs drag them down the street. Especially when they have the dog in a harness!
I must be getting soft with age. For the first time ever I used a harness on a dog. The one in my pic there. I'm almost ashamed to admit why. He didnt drag me around so much as jerk me off my feet though.

Ahahahahahahah. That's what happens, Steve, when you want to look cool like all those silly 'tree hugger' dog owners.
Ok, so now I will have to come clean & also admit to using a harness (in agitation work )& my female did the same thing to me. To my surprize....my Decoy was not pleased.

David..did they even listen to you in the long run? I can get them to admit things, but then they make up more excuses.
Actually, some of them did. At least they (the ones making the most noise) started using terms like; "this is what I heard", or even asking me point-blank questions about police training.

It's hard talking to the "average dog owner" at times. Most seem to be more interested in hearsay and TV trainers and don't want your opinion because "it contradicts 80% of everything I've ever heard about dogs". Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm an average first-time dog owner. (Fortunately for me, I have an exceptional dog.) A little embarrassed to admit this, but it's taken me almost 4 years of dabbling in AKC style obedience and agility classes to get to the point where I can separate good advice from bad. It's easy when it seems extreme on either end of the spectrum, but middle of the road stuff is harder to decipher.
I'll say it again, I'm lucky to have ended up with a biddable, easy-going, tolerant dog. Some of the crap "training" we've been exposed to could have done damage to a lesser soul.

A couple years ago I was thrown out of an online papillon group for suggesting that yappy neurotic dogs begat yappy neurotic dogs even if they have a Ch at the beginning of their registered names, suggesting that perhaps breeders should insist upon their dogs be housebroken, and that solid obedience didn't equal abuse. Apparently dragging a dog every weekend around a showring, and producing a litter of puppies twice a year was all one needed to prove that they were reputable and breeding quality stock. Maybe I was a little more direct about it because I felt these folks were out of their minds but I have always felt the desire to be honest over popular.
It has taken time and a lot of exposure to figure out the kind of "dog professional" I wanted to be and the methodology I needed to evaluate changing material. This stuff changes all the time as I gain experience, work with different dogs, and I needed a way to sort the chaff from the wheat so to speak.

I wonder which was the last straw.
