Love the photos!!!!!
I have a question, That blue thing you are holding in the pix looks like a paddle hot shot for cattle.....what is it used for in herding?
Fascinating! I'm a huge fan of finding multiple uses for items...Is it for the sheep? Is it a visual, or do you zap them with it?

It gives the handler a longer "arm", both to help control the sheep and encourage the dog to get some space between them and the sheep. Many times young dogs want to be right on the heels of the sheep. The can't control the whole group effectively that way, and it puts more pressure on the stock to move. But getting some distance between the dog and the sheep, the dog can cover the whole flock better and the sheep stay under better control.

Thanks so much everyone!! I'm glad you're all enjoying it as much as we do! I will try to get some video asap.
I will also definitely keep in mind your trials preps. HT is only herding testing, but I am having a bit of a hard time flanking (though that was the first time I tried) so I just need to control him so we can get from point A to B and back again. Judy is an ACK herding judge so she helps a lot with that. She said I shouldn't worry at all. We'll do just fine. She's really impressed with him. Which makes me very happy. There are trials this weekend that I want to go to and I can see what it is exactly I have to do. It will help me I think. I know his weaknesses are staying in too close (the paddle is excellent for that) and not staying - he rushes to the sheep the minute I move. But I'm going to have a lead for that next lesson.
Thanks again everyone. I'll keep you all updated!! Your feedback is so encouraging!!
