Oh that is very exciting!! I have chickens too!! I have Auracana's that lay blue eggs...3 hens & 1 Roo plus to Minorcas..they lay white eggs. I am getting 6 day old Auracana's the end of March. I am new to chickens...got my guys this past June...just love the fresh eggs!
Congratulations!
This is the first year that I have not hatched chicks, I have had them for about 17 years. Last year I got all roosters, couldn't believe it...not one hen! I was thinking of ducks this year!
ALL roos definately is a bummer!!! I've also thought of ducks but keep reading how messy they are, and that is scaring me a bit! I do like the idea of duck eggs, but don't know if I'll go there YET!
my senior year of high school, i "aqquared" a duckling.....my parents were not happy, lol.
he grew into a big white duck(like the aflak kind, not sure of their proper name).
He lived outside with the cats, ate the catfood with them(yes, he got his own feed too), slept inder the porch with them, and came when i called for the kitties.
one day i came home from school, and he was missing. apparently my parents(dad) killed him while i was gone, and tried to say he flew away...

they did stuff like that. it was fairly traumatizing to be honest.
apparently, he had started pooping on the porch, and instead of acting rationally, and telling me to clean it up, and build a pen or something, they "handled" it.
