Thanks for the reply! I have already bathed him, but as for the actual "grooming", I think that will be up to the groomers! My son has only tried to pick him up once or twice and learned very quickly not to try anymore. It doesnt matter how old he is, I supervise him at all times and have been teaching my son how to hold Baxter. For the most part, Grayson only wants Baxter to sit in his lap. Thanks again.
Thank you! That's a great point, but Baxter has only done it two times and only with his back to my son. So far it hasnt happened again! Baxter seems to be adjusting well and my son only wants to run with Baxter around the house or outside....he has no more interest in wanting to pick him up. I want to thank you for not bashing me about my son, Grayson, picking up Baxter. I supervise my son very carefully around Baxter and I try hard to raise Grayson to be polite respectful to humans and animals. Some of the other posts just seem nasty and unecessary. Thanks again
Yes, I thought about that too! I can provide a great home and ensure that this puppy would be safe from harm. He seems to be doing great now though, no more growling or nipping. He runs after my son and stays at my feet! I'm hoping the behaviors are gone for good!

Age does matter Andrea. The puppy won't view a 5yr old the same as a 12yr old.
He has seen the vet for his first set of shots, but is scheduled to go back for his 10 weeks shots. I will have the vet look him over. Frankly, it doesn't matter how old my son is. I supervise him and show him the correct way to treat Baxter. However, Grayson really only wants me to put him on his lap and hasn't tried to pick him up since the growling incident. I understand the importance of not letting very young children pick up a puppy, but I think it's important for Baxter to get used to me and my son (while in my supervision). I dont mean to sound rude, but everyone seems to be targeting my decision as a mother..I have a Bachelor's Degree with a minor in Family Studies and I am about to complete my Master's degree. I am able to make sound decisions. Thanks for your reply, again please dont misuderstand me.

No one knows anything about you, Andrea. No one knows that you understand the importance of not letting very young children pick up a puppy. No one knows your education, experience, or anything else.
So when a new person asks for advice, everyone posts accordingly.
It would go poorly if every new poster was assumed to be dog-and-children experienced (or to have a Bachelor's Degree with a minor in Family Studies).
