I just cleaned his crate out, and I'm on my way to go buy some more fish oil.
I just moved a few months ago and i still need to find a good vet in my new area. I'm going to ask if they have a Dermatologist on site, or maybe they can refer me to one. I'll definitely ask for a mange check to then.
I'll ask about a thyroid panel, i know hair and skin can be affected, but does it not also come with fatigue? and he is definitely not low on energy, he is crazy Mexican jumping bean like usual.
This is gonna be a pricey vet visit, first time in they will want to do a check up and all that and then all these tests. but it could be worse *knock on wood*... and that's what the credit card is for.

I just moved a few months ago..........
Did the itching coincide with this at all? Just a thought.

When I originally read this post I wondered the same thing.
A lot of dogs scratch and nibble as a way to deal with stress.

A lot of dogs scratch and nibble as a way to deal with stress. That, and possibly new surroundings. New grass, trees, dirt, dust and mold from moving, etc.

It did start after we moved, but not shortly. Maybe there is something in the house. I'll try to go through and eliminate possibilities. I saw him trying to get at a house plant, I'll move it to a non doggy room and discourage eating anything in the yard.
I don't think it's stress but it could be. He didn't seem to have it soon after the moved and we have a ton more room now. but anything is possible.
I got a new fish oil bottle with out the gel caps so i can just pour it on the food.
so if I'm correct the proper dosage for a 70 lbs dog would be 7000mg or 7 grams on a scale? and i 400 U.I Vit E capsule per dog.
Thanks again for everyone's help, i can't wait till i get to the bottom of this, I feel so bad for the little guy.

Yep.
Hopefully some of the folks that are more knowledgable with allergy stuff will respond to this.
They'll have tips to help you control the environment, such as wiping feet when they come inside and washing beds. Stuff like that.
Also, they'll know what to tell you to request at the vet.

I would want a skin scraping at the vet. They can look at it under the microscope and tell you right away if it is Demodex or not.
I would first want to rule out any possible mite or fungal infection first. Especially if it is making the dog itch, bald spots and itching indicate a possibility of either these two things.
Also, they'll know what to tell you to request at the vet. I missed where Joyce posted this.
What she said.

Thanks I'll definitely do that... I cleaned his crate, and gave him a much resented shower. Hopefully he is feeling a little more comfortable.
As it turns out i was only feeding them 2/7ths of the required fish oil before. Hopefully now they will be getting more of what they need, and maybe help curb this skin issue.
I'm still going to take him to a vet, but i really want to find a good one in this area. I have been over charged and mislead by too many vets in the past, and more than anything I'm concerned about who i would be handing them over to.
thank you for the continued help, it is very much appreciated

Hey all,
Just to let everybody know getting the Vit E/Fish oil levels right is really helped a lot to make him comfortable. his coat and skin feel way better and the bald spots are closing up. His vet appointment is tomorrow and I'm still gonna have him checked out and all, but here is hoping we fixed it.
Thanks again!
