Nothing involving TV animal shows surprises me. Although I truly believe most of the shows dealing with animals especially rescue groups have their hearts in the right place and see the opportunity to be on television as a great way to highlight their breeds plight. Unfortunately their lack of knowledge about behavior combined with a lack of actual experience is evident. The shows producers want what sells and stupid sells unfortunately.

Oh man! So glad you brought this up.... Yes, this show is absolutely heart breaking! That woman is VERY ignorant. I think her heart is in the right place, but she touts herself as a pit bull/dog expert. Talk about misleading.... And yes, if this show truly focused on training (REAL science, not cookie baiting and bribery), not only would it be a much better show, but the service she would be providing would be so much better for the dogs, the adopters, and the public at large.
Please describe why you feel "The Dog Whisperer" is a bad show or teaches bad methods. I watch all these shows and although I think I agree with your assessment of the rest of the shows, I think that Cesar seems to know what he's doing. I would be very disappointed to find out the he doesn't.
Stillwell caters to the "average pet owner problems" and for those...I think she's okay. She anthropomorphizes to the point of insanity but that's what the average person needs to understand dog training. And her methods do work on the average house dog who's just never had rules put in place.
As far as her methods...they work with pet dogs but she certainly has a way of making things A LOT harder than they should be. She does make me a lot less angry watching her than I get when I watch Millian....I'd like to say I'd like the guy but I can't when I see him working a dog who's CLEARLY handicapped in and out of a truck where he wants him to ride unrestrained in the bed to the vet he's never been to....that and "calm submissive" which means "worked to exhaustion" not "oh he's relaxed now"

He sure does. I think he's part dog. I applaud his clarity about pack structure, too.
But there have been many many threads here about him, including one in which we contacted his assistant because many on the board were up in arms over a "hidden" e-collar that the owners insisted on using (and yes, we received a prompt reply) and including threads where Ed mentioned Tivo'ing his programs and watching them all.
I have seen a few episodes where I took issue with something, but not many.
I'm biased, maybe, going back to the "good old days" when we could attend his seminars with our dogs and have every person and dog worked with --- pre-Nat Geo and national fame. He deserves it, though. (JMO.)
But I do think he is not at all well-versed with e-collars and shouldn't allow owners to talk him into using it, and I also think he sometimes fails to explain releasing frustrated energy.
I think he's a very nice guy, but more than that, I think he "gets" dogs more than almost anyone I've ever met.

That sounds about how I'd describe her. Isn't she a groomer who suddenly decided she was a trainer/behaviorist? I may have the wrong person in mind.
