Thanks for the advice and well wishes guys!
I'm looking up the Traumeel now. Ryuk's feeling quite a bit better I think, he's been giving me not-at-all subtle hints about wanting to play frisbee but I think he gets one more day off at least. I let him sleep on the bed with the bag of peas last night, all wrapped up so they were just cool not frostbite inducing. Apart from the fact I think Ryuk really wants to sample them they did some good (he's a horrible carnivore...he loves carrots too), he's a lot less tender to the touch and is curling up on that side now to nap.

Wow Jamie, what a horrible ordeal you have been through. I am so sorry to hear the news. But very glad to hear that you and Ryuk are healing and recouping.
Good boy Ryuk!! it is so nice to know he was there to help you when you needed him.
Sending you more healing thoughts your and Ryuk's way.
I really wish you had sprayed that attacker with some of that green colored pepper spray! He deserves to be in jail!
Take good care

I barely use anything for my own pain. Let him tough it out.
Like I said in the "threat" topic, you can not count on others to defend you. MFers today just don't want to get involved. Reality TV is more their speed.

Hahaha!!! I had kidney stones in '04 and have had 11 different broken bones on nine different occasions, throughout my life. The last one was when the inside (tibial) hinge of my left ankle snapped completely in half, along with my fibula snapping like a twig 1/3 of the way down from my knee, and chip fracture on my heel. My foot was, for all intents and purposes, completely dislocated from my leg and required screws to put it back together (I still have them in a jar, somewhere). The pain of stretching my ankle, at doctor's orders, just four weeks after breaking it brought me to tears three times a day for a month. I took 600mg Ibuprofen, for both than and the stones, even though I was given a 'script of Vicodin. Nope, never experienced real pain at any point in my life. My combat vet' father didn't teach me a thing about how to tough things out, either.
Yep, my dogs tough out the vast majority their injuries, too. There's only one way to learn how to deal with pain and that is, to deal with it.

Good work Jamie. I hope you gave him the two black eyes. Are you OK?
Aspirin is a good, minimal side effects pain killer. Look up the dose for dogs and give buffered aspirin with food if you think he needs it. No need to keep a dog uncomfortable if you are able to help him out. There are cases where pain reminds an animal to keep quiet, but a low dose of aspirin will just take the edge off.
Please be safe! Do you carry pepper spray/bear spray? I've been in a few scary situations before with my dogs, but never one where I was actually physically attacked. Wow. I hope the guy gets put away for a long time. Being drunk is no excuse.

Jaimie, Glad to hear there was nothing worse than some sore muscles and that you both survived to fight another day. My mom is nurse and she has always gone by the "ice for the first 48" rule; meaning ice is used for the first 48 hours of an injury to control any inflammation and then after the 48 hours, heat is used to get the circulation going and to loosen up the muscles. Being from a family of soccer, hockey and football players, I can confirm that this works.
