Okay, I was gone all day, but my husband let her out quite a few times. Each time she had a runny, not mucusy, ricey brown stool, more pudding han water or logs. Laterthis afternoon, about an hour ago, she had ricey brown logs.
By baited water do you mean a watery chicken broth? Please give me more detail on that.
I would say she had about 5 small stools altogether today.
Thank you so very much, Aleta
I am putting on the rice gruel to cook right now.

The rice probably isn't cooked enough if you see "ricey" poops.
"I would say she had about 5 small stools altogether today."
How much food did she have today, and what was it? All rice?
"By baited water do you mean a watery chicken broth? Please give me more detail on that. "
Yes, or baited by boiling or poaching any meat in it and then removing any fat (like if you used ground beef). (Healthy dogs do well with fat; this is a diarrhea thing.) Or commercial chicken broth with no salt added.

She ate nothing today. she had water and nothing more.
I have just finished my rice gruel=--only water and whie rice. I had some homemade chicken water in the freezer. I gave her about 1/4 cup 5 minutes ago. She dran it up fine.
She had only the refridgerated raw food from the pet store yesterday and white rice, which was not gruel. that is what she pooped todya. Now she is a completely empty pup!
What should I feed her, if anything? She sure has loads of energy and vhim and vinegar!! A schnoodle puppy through and through!

And she has now had one log "event," right?
What I would do is give her a small meal of the rice gruel in the morning, a small one at noon, and then see the next poop, which should happen in the afternoon.
I would not ration the unsalted baited water at all.
If she has perfect poop tomorrow afternoon/evening, I would add some skinless white chicken meat to the next meal. If you have some plain unsweetened live-culture yogurt, you could add some of that too. I'd use real restraint on the size of the meals (frequent small being much much better than infrequent large when recovering from a bad diarrhea bout) for the next two-three days.
The poop will tell you when you can move forward in the diet as outlined earlier: "I would give part of a skinned chicken back, maybe 2-3 ounces, in the morning. Nothing else" would be my first item when you have seen at least a day or two of perfect poop.

Isn't it a relief when the poop starts normalizing?
Now you have joined the PWC, or Poop-Watcher Club.

OK, I will give unlimited baited water, small gruel meals throughout the morning and assess the poop in the afternoon? Is that right? I do have some Dannon yogurt that I have been feeding her, but will ask what you think before I feed chicken or yogurt.

Oh, I have been an unwitting member of that club, PWC, for these past 2 weeks. that is what led me to this leersburg site in the first place.
A question about "perfect" poops---What does one look like after the diarrhea has ended and before the raw meat begins?
You all are utterly great, I feel in much better hands with you than I do with a vet.
I have always been a little unconventional in my approach to pretty much everything, especially medicine, education and living and eating in general.
It is wonderful to find people who are willing to think and live "out of the box".

I would actually wait to see perfect poop from the rice gruel before adding the skinless white chicken and plain unsweetened yogurt. If you have any plain pumpkin (not pie filling), you might add a tablespoon of that to the rice.
The yogurt is probably just fine, but rice and pumpkin are both poop normalizers and will hasten the return to a normal gut. THEN I'm all for the probiotics in the live-culture yogurt because the scouring of her gut from the diarrhea has almost certainly depleted her good bacteria.
I betcha that small frequent meals of rice gruel normalizes the poop in a day.
Perfect poops are log-shaped, brown, and firm.

This is a wonderfully experienced and educated board.
I have always learned a TON here and on Ed's videos.

Well, Connie, and all you other lovely concerned ladies,
I am deeply grateful for your time and wisdom. My pup has lapped up lots of baited water this evening and I have more of that for her tomorrow plus much rice gruel. We will feed small meals of that in the morning and noontime, and see what happens in the backyard thereafter. I will ask you what to do before I feed anything, Connie. I am in CDT and you are in PDT. So I will post a message before 3pm your time more than likely. I do have to go to the dentist tomorrow to have a crown put on, but when I come home, I will let Maisie out and see what she has to offer!
Talk to you then,
Aleta
