That's an interesting finish. Is that considered a swing? For some reason I think my dogs turn the opposite way on the finish left. Maybe it's just seeing it on camera. I love the way she scoots her butt back. I wish my dogs had that focus!
Thanks all! I am not really that good of a trainer. Frost is just a special dog that makes me look good :-)
Michelle, Frost's left finish style is less than ideal since she sometimes does not scoot correctly into heel position. However, I have tried and tried to get her to do it the correct way (go past me and turn around quickly before sitting in heel position) but after hundreds of reps I decided to pick my battles and that was one I was going to let go. When I am working on finishes, I make her get in correctly but I let her do it in her style....
I think it's cute, it looks like she's backing into a parking space and if it works that's great. I thought maybe it was a different style since I heard you using german commands. I love how some dogs actually jump up in the air and turn. Gotta have a ton of drive for that.

I think it is flashy when they do that but again, they could land incorrectly and get marked for a crooked finish. I am being nitpicky though so unless you are going for an OTCH, both finishes are fine :-p
she's adorable! and so attentive! I love the way she scoots around to finish. My dog has adopted that style but he's no where near as straight and he does it with the force of a sledge hammer....
What exactly is the "directed retrieve"? Do you indicate a particular object out of a group?
