Very cool. I agree about keeping marine mammals. The way the steal them away from their families it's horrible. They say it's necessary to study them, also keep certain species from going extinct...I'm caught between a rock and a hard place with feelings about it. The Shedd Aquarium was having problems a while back keeping belugas alive. I think it's less hard for second generations animals who have been born into captivity and never knew life in the ocean. Seems they'd be happier swimming in the ocean...errr ahh well that is an oil free ocean. Yikes what a mess! I've never seen "The Cove ". Dolphin and whale shows make me cry...Free Willy -forget about it. I don't know if I can handle the truth. Is it really sad?
According to the gentleman who trained "Flipper", whose home was the site of the Marathon Fla Dolphin center featured on the syndicated TV show we watched for years, some dolphins become so depressed they commit suicide in captivity by swimming to the bottom and refusing to come up for air until they drown. The mans
sense of guilt was hard to watch. He entered a quest to end all dolphin capture-theme parks in an attempt to make amends for those he had harmed, for the suffering he had caused.
Wow I am definately watching that movie. Going to look for it now. Do the filmakers have anything to do with the start of "whale wars"? They go after japenese ships hunting whales under the pretense of "Scientific research" it gets really ratical.
