Uncooked meatballs (ground beef) have always worked well when I needed something to hide a pill in. Sometimes I've had to crush or break up the pill, but they always wanted the meatball.
Thanks Deana, but that is another problem I have under the Natural diet forum...I'm trying to switch her to a RAW diet, and she will not eat anything related to it. Hot dog and cheese are the only two things besides kibble that she will eat. And even those, she takes with a "careful" mouth and nibbles on it piece by piece. I'm tempted to put on steel arm plates (like what knights wore) and just force the things down her throat. (Just kidding, but am getting frustrated) I'm really running out of options and don't know how to bark "You have to take these if you wanna get better."
I've also used this method with success on dogs, cats, etc, etc. You can try crushing the pill, add it to a small amount of liquid (fish oil can also cover the taste)and use a medication syringe to squirt it down her throat. It's pretty much impossible for her to spit out her meds doing this and the process is over very quickly.
Jason.... our cairn terrier also has HTD. I asked the vet about alternatives and she said there realy arn't any. We put our pills in some liver wurst and do prety good with that. Just like your dog, there are times when she "knows" it's in there and won't eat it and we have to go with the down the hatch method which puts us on the outs with the dog for a day. Unfortunatly it's an every day of their life disease but the pills are better than the bloated, energyless dog we had before.
Jason, I would try mixing things up a little bit-don't always put it in the same thing, I would wait till she is hungry to give it to her and in something that she really won't chew that much. Also how is she getting along with the other two dogs. If she is getting along well and the aggression levels are down what you could try doing is treating them first with the same stuff her pill is going to be in, then when she thinks she's missing out on something give her the one with the pill in it-just be careful so the other two don't get it. I have a feeling she is smelling it in there. As a last resort you could see if they have it in shot or enima form <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Just jokin

Ok...I tried the bal of peanut butter and she does not want anything to do with peanut butter. Even without the pill...So far I used a slice of deli meat and rolled the pill in it. It's been working so far. I don't always give her the pill in what I'm using. I'll give her just meat and use hot dogs during obedience. I'll try to slip the pill in that way. It's been working thus far. The force down the throat pisses her off and she starts snapping. I don't want to pick that fight if I don't have to...I'll do it as a last resort. Its working for now. Thanks for all your help...
And Dee Dee, FYI I grew up on a farm with livestock. A shot or enima does not bother me. Ever palpate (I think that's how you spell it) a cow? That's like a "full arm" enima to check for pregnancy. I think I can handle a dog. It's the end with the teeth that I respect.
