If you don't have the time to train your dog, you don't have the time to own a dog.
Please rehome.
So because I'm not a dog snob that wants to become some wannabe dog trainer in my free time that means I can't own my dog??? My dog is a member of my family...he goes everywhere I go, he sleeps in the house at night when I'm at work, and he gets tons of love and attention...

I normally don't recommend sending dogs off to be trained. The reason is that 99.999% of the trainers would not be training in ways I would agree with.
But you live very close to Michael Ellis, I recommend you contact him and see if he or one of his trainers would be willing to help you.

Hence the reason Dave asked an experienced forum for opinions.

I think that the 99.99% Ed mentioned would be what the posters who responded have in mind. "I virtually never advise that a dog be sent away for training."
I hope too that the O.P. understands the time investment required to understand and follow up on and maintain any training done away from him.

Right. But that still doesn't help the poster that thought it was a good idea to work a dog in defense because of a lack of food and prey drive.
So lets piss in his Wheaties and send him on his way to find a "trainer" himself. Without any guidance from the experience here.
Not saying to baby ANY poster here, but there were 2 post of information from the OP. Then recommendations of rehoming. I don't see any help in this for the dog. Did we think Dave's next post was going to be of the great home he found his dog because we told him to?

I guess that some of the responces are kind of a 'knee jerk' reaction brought on of late by the numerous folks that have come on here & taken up a great deal of time & effort on the part of some of us to try to help. Then they just say piss on what you have to say....I'm doing what I wanted to do anyway(25 pages later). You kinda are reluctant to put in all the 'effort' yet again & have someone go do something stupid with their dog. Yea, I know their dog, they can do what they want to with it, yada yada yada. But it gets old after a while. So we get so that we just make the responce short & sweet & cover as many of the basis that we can in a couple of short posts.
Didn't mean to piss in his wheaties. But still stand on what I said. You don't send a dog out for training & you don't work a dog, especially a young one, in defense. If you can't even train a recall, how will you maintain what someone else teaches your dog & you don't even have that training bond with the dog to boot. I don't see why someone would want a dog & not make the time to train it & enjoy the process. 'sigh'.
I get that.....you haven't seen me on several threads because of that reason....but this guy hadn't started that stuff yet....
I disagree totally with sending a dog off for training as well....
But this guy just asked a question....
I totally get you on this though...I just vented on this subject recently
