Barb, these episode happens as soon as I open the crate, sometime he follows (rarely). seem like he wants to pick a fight. but as said, once the leash is on all is good. Dan

Scott, I started the marker training on the leash, it went well so I stop, got busy in other things with the pup. but , you gave me an excellent idea, since the problem stem from the crate, I will go back to introduce the proper way to come out the crate, and sit for the leash. I look forward to be with my Chico. Another thing I am looking into is a run for the day time, with AC/heat in the back, with an awning in the front keep the elements out. that way he is not so crate bound. Dan

Might be on to something, Dan. Also, once he's older I would guess, it's possible a treadmill might be handy. He could get some exercise and it wouldn't be as much of a hardship for you.

I just started taking Chico out of the crate, put him on a sit, mark it. with a good boy also and put him back into the crate. did this about five times, same results. No biting or fuss. Will continue on that venue plus the collar and leash marker. thanks, Dan

At 6 months Dan, depending on the dog, I wouldn't hesitate in introducing the pinch collar before anything happens whether it were for training, just for exercise or just coming out of the crate for a visit.
On off, on off, on off, etc. It always means something good is in the offing. If the dog is a real pta, ie. ignoring you, put a pull tab on the collar....use it to get his attention when things get out of hand. Not as a correction as such, only as a hello hello? remember me? this is what is happening, see see here here grab this tug (or whatever).
It's a good time though to give an intro to the pinch going on and off.
Goes on, fun things are going to happen.
Comes off, time to chill.
If my dog isn't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

Randy, I have a prong collar, but I was approaching this somewhat wrong, first he was coming out of the crate raw, looking to bit or a fight. So I decided to start there at the crate. I call his name, open the crate, and give him a sit and mark, did this several times this evening, with no adverse reaction, no biting, no fuss. I put on the collar with no problem after that. I will continue to work with him. on all three faze, crate, collar, and leash. I will be going to be happy tonight. Dan
