Hmmm.....I wonder where I could procure some of these offensive little buggers...
One night in a NYC hotel ought to do the trick! I saw yesterday that my town is listed as the 7th most bedbug infested city in the US. Freaks me right out.
I agree, though, that bedbug detection would be a great way to play with your dog and make some cash.
I don't mind seeing them if I can leave them where they are. I'm going to do a boatload of research before I even consider teaching "bedbug scent detection" to my dog. So far as I know, they are easy to spread but they are attracted to very specific things.
So far I've learned that they will hitch a ride on luggage if you put a suitcase on an afflicted bed, they will travel through wall outlets, will live in bureaus and end-tables near beds, etc. but they don't jump. They are also large enough to be visible. I'll talk to some exterminator folks too, to find out how they usually locate them and deal with them without spreading them.
They're SO creepy. But I am also seriously arachnophobic and had horses (and by extension barns and barn-spiders) my whole life. I can deal with icky if it's lucrative
Kristel,
the baby ones are supposedly almost see-through and invisible unless they have been sucking on someone, then they turn red from the blood. Gross! I would not count on always being able to see them. I guess I would have to have a good sniff job from my dog myself if I was to ever do it. Also they are as thin as a sheet of paper.
