I would caution anyone who wants to take their dog to meet horses to make sure the horses are safe and the dogs are securely leashed and controlled. Even just a little barking or whining can set a horse off.
My horses are safe with MY dogs... the ones they have accepted as part of their herd. Winchester is gentle with pups/ dogs that we introduce to him properly, but he will chase the neighbor's dog out of the pasture if she comes over.
Winchester is also trained to drive, so my dogs don't react to the sounds of the harness anymore. Paul even had Win hooked up hauling a log through the yard one day, and Caterina jumped up on the log and went for a ride. Crazy Belgians (equine and canine).
If you are going to introduce your dog to a horse, always check with the owner first, and make sure the horse is dog safe. Some horses have an outright hatred of dog, and will go out of their way to try and harm the dog. Yikes!
Absolutely true. My friend's stepdad had a mare that would try and kill any dog that came into her corral. The only exception was my keeshond, Misty. For some reason Robin accepted Misty and even allowed her to come in and greet new foals.
There is a state park nearby that also includes a public farm with a lot of horses and other animals. If they allow leashed dogs on the farm I think I'll take ol Brodie over there and see how he reacts to various animals.
Just closing the loop on this one, I checked with the farm yesterday and understandably, they do not allow the public to bring any dogs onto the property.

Probably just too high of a liability on the farms side. All the potential what-if's!
