I found that so many people assume the prong meant Falcon was aggressive more so than any comments about the collar itself. I think the cover is a great idea in either situation.
But.... if they think he's aggressive, then they won't ask to pet him!!! That could work in a handlers favor!
When I go to the bus stop to pick up my son, I let my 2 1/2 yr old daughter walk our EP. She's mainly my husbands dog- I don't work with her, and she does NOT heel, or loosh leash walk. Straight to the end, leans into pressure, and pulls. She wears a gentle leader, as a crutch. (until I convince him to let me put my new prong collar on her!) Nearly every day I get some comment on why I'm letting my child walk a dog who bites. Or, someone asks why she's muzzled, she looks sweet. Huh? Bite? What? They assume, since there is a thin black piece of nylon across her nose she's muzzled. Idiots. She's panting, with her mouth wide open, right? People amaze me.
I think Leerburg should start carrying the cover!

Oh yes, people make comments, and they judge. Some get downright rude. Yes, people seem to assume that my dog is a man eater because he wears a prong, doesn't matter that he's happily wagging his tail and offering all sorts of silly behaviors for treats/attention.
Most of the comments and ugly looks come from people being dragged down the street by their sweet, harmless, gagging, foaming at the mouth lab crosses, too. lol But my prong collar is cruel, their choke collars are safe. *shrug* I am just glad I am not their dog.

This is true, but when we were in "family friendly" areas (Colonial Williamsburg) I did not want folks thinking I was bringing a large, aggressive dog around children... If I was in a different area/situation - YES - having people think he is a meanie would be great.

I found that most of the comments I've received have been regarding the fact that *I* am so cruel for using it on that poor dog, not at all crossing their minds that he may need it, or be a nasty dog.
You should see the looks I used to get from the occasional person I would meet while running Toro off leash in the provincial park (off season)... having taken it off him, the collar dangling off my finger, prongs fully exposed & sparkling in the sunlight in all their glory!

Phaedra- and HEAVEN FORBID if they ever saw an e-collar on your dog! )OH NO!!!! You MUST be a horrific animal abuser!
(Don't know if you use them or not, but I know the folks who don't approve of prongs would potentially have an aneurism over the use of a collar that SHOCKS the dog. You must make him quiver in fear!

It's really great when you have a dog with longer hair - covers the prong very nicely I took Kenzi along to a humane society fun day early in the summer and you could hardly tell she had a prong on. Then I added a bandanna on top of that and presto - my sled dog wannabe turned into a really nice little border collie that walked along nice as you please!!
