Does anyone in the forum do ham radio?
I'm taking classes for my tech. and I was just wondering.
Classes? You don't need no stinkin' classes! I just got my tech license a couple weeks ago. I took a 4-hr. exam prep "class" where we just read all the questions and answers about 3 times, then took the test. There's a pool of 400+ questions they draw from for your 35-question test. You need to get 70%. They stressed that the answers we were reading would appear word for word on the test, and that was about 98% correct. I've got website links to that material if you want them. It's definitely not the way I like to learn stuff (of course, I know nothing about radio), but all the learning comes after you get your license, anyway. Practically every ham I know has done it the same way.
I'm pretty involved in my local CERT group - http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/ and, yeah, when everything turns to $h!+, only the hams with their little generators will be able to communicate with the outside world. Everyone should look into getting CERT training in their area, in only to have yourself and family better prepared for disasters.
My dad was a ham radio guy for my whole life...........I remember one time when we lived in new england he was talkin to a guy in Italy. Pretty cool stuff.
